Staying Safe In The Gym
Now gyms are back open everyone is rushing to make up for lost time. However, with a pandemic still at large some may be wondering how to stay safe in the gym? Well wonder no further as here we are going to give you some guidelines and tips to keep yourselves and others safe at the gym.
One way we can all stay safe is by wiping equipment down before and after use. By cleaning the equipment with a disinfectant, you minimise the chances of you catching or spreading a virus as the disinfectant kills it before it has a chance to infect anyone. Most gyms have taken this precaution when re opening and have supplied antibacterial wipes/spray, these are to ensure your safety and others. If there is no disinfectant at the gym it is recommended you bring your own. When searching for a cleaner its important to look for active ingredients like ethanol, hydrogen peroxide and quaternary ammonium.
Another way to stay safe in the gym is by covering your face. This reduces the chance of contracting and spreading the virus as it makes it harder for it to enter and leave your body through your nose and mouth. Although when doing higher intensity training a mask can restrict air flow and make it harder to breathe. So, this would most likely come under personal choice whether you wanted to wear a mask or not.
Most gyms have re-opened and have hand sanitiser dispensers or wipes available. It is crucial you use this sanitiser regularly after using machines and touching weights as this will kill the virus that was potentially on the machine you just used. So there fore this is much safer for yourselves and others. Again, if sanitiser is not available in your gym it is recommended you bring your own and remember to use it regularly.
With gyms re opening you may have noticed equipment is more spaced out. This is to increase the distance between people to reduce the chance of spreading or contracting the disease. Although this is effective it can’t always be practiced in a gym so its important you make yourself aware of your surroundings in the gym and try not to get too close to other people.
Although these are all effective ways to stop the spread of corona virus with gyms re opening ,it is still very important that if you are showing symptoms of covid - 19 you stay at home and especially do not go to the gym.
