What is Pre Workout?

Pre workout is a supplement used in the fitness industry to increase performance and awareness during activities. They are usually powders that are mixed with water and are taken around 20-30 minutes before your training session. They boost performance by being rich in caffeine, carbs and some contain creatine monohydrate.

As well as a supplement, a meal or a snack can be eaten before a workout to give you energy. When eating a pre workout meal there are two macronutrients (protein and carbohydrates) that it must be rich in. Sometimes coffees are taken as a pre workout as the caffeine keeps you concentrated and alert. A pre workout meal is ideal however not everyone has the time to get some food together around an hour before going to the gym. That is where supplements come in as they are quick and easy to take and have maximum effect.
Taking a pre workout supplement will increase energy and awareness. Its important to read the manufacturer’s instructions before taking them and not take them daily. The effects of too much pre workout can include high blood pressure, insomnia, diarrhoea, and headaches. Although these side effects may seem extreme, they are only present if you consume too much pre workout.
There are many benefits included with taking pre workout supplements. One of these includes improved performance as beta alanine (an ingredient in most pre workouts) is an amino acid that reduced fatigue and increases endurance. These supplements also increase your focus during a workout to make sure you do not get distracted at the gym. As pre workout is packed with caffeine, they are ideal to keep the talkers concentrated.
